Olivia Steckler

4A
Written Response

I noticed that the book was primarily designed in the style of pictures with a few words. It truly harnessed the images, language, and perceptions of our digital lives. I thought it was interesting how the author used a set of unfamiliar glossary of words in order to describe how our society is truly feeling today. However, I thought some of the words used were a bit confusing to understand because two opposite words would sometimes be meshed together in order to create a new set of definitions. I really appreciated the books style of imagery and metaphors used in order to understand technology and how the internet is shaping us. I also liked how the book doesn’t explicitly reveal conclusions but rather lets you explore the messages on your own. However, there were bits of the book that were hard to read and understand. First of all, the style of writing was a bit confusing because it was written by 3 different authors. It was also a bit frustrating to focus because there were a bunch of random disjointed lines. Overall I thought it was a fun read, a read that truly makes you question how you read,  and why you read. Similar to how much the internet has reconstructed our brains. Not only that, but the use of visual imagery was truly addictive and constantly kept us wanting more. Just like the internet, which has drastically brainwashed our society. So is this sense of agitation we feel apart of the books aim or is it supposed to represent more of our personal relationship with technology?
