Age of Earthquakes Response+Pastiche

Age of Earthquakes Response

Aditya Kelshiker

Throughout the text Age of Earthquakes the author offers their viewpoint on technology and its effect on humanity as a whole. The author attempts to relate the concept of the internet to an individual's personality, I do respect the perspective given however I do fundamentally disagree with many of the arguments the author suggests. The author suggests that the entirety of the personality of an individual can be deciphered via their internet activities and while I do agree with this to an extent I also believe that it can only know so much. The author makes the argument that we are losing individuality as a society and I do find it fascinating that they believe this to be so and in many aspects it may be (clothing, common phrases, etc) however the author makes no mention of how it allows people to actually express their individuality. The author makes it seem like every child experiences the same thing, however due to the environment and interactions one goes through this is invalid. The author also talks about the concept of societal construct and how the internet is making people marginally richer and destroying the concept of “class”.  I believe that this view is fundamentally incorrect as one intrinsic concept will always exist: time. With the widespread availability of internet the availability of information is nearly infinite, this combined with the fact that everyone has 24 hours in a day means that there is opportunity everywhere and it is up to those who are determined to sift through it all to earn more money than the rest. I will always believe that I am the protagonist of my own story and that everyone should as well (a idea the author says is lost with technology).
