The Age of Earthquakes was a mind-blowing and interesting yet immensely confusing book. The pages had random words and no structure at all. It was really hard to interpret what was going om and why the book was like that. The lack of structure reminded me of Manga (which you read back to front) but even those books had a plot. The book seemed like a conspiracy theory from different people put together in random words on a page. In my opinion, the book was aggressive and very dark for such a tiny book. The back cover is saying that "your generation is the last to die" repetitively, which is ominous and confusing in itself. All the talk about "internet is taking over the world" reminded me of a horror movie I saw about the dark web. On the other hand, it is a very eye-opening book. It talks about the pre-internet period and how now, the internet is taking over everything. That is scary to think about but is a very real possibility. The world is definitely evolving and the stubborn people who will not evolve with the world are getting left behind. Yes. the internet can be dangerous, but it also making advances that people never thought were possible. Some questions I have after reading this are: what inspired the authors to write this one-of-a-kind book? Are they all conspirators? Why are we the last generation to die? Which generation was that message made for? Is it literal or does it have a bigger meaning behind it? Is the book just one big mockery of the way humans think? This book makes you think about what your future entails in the words of technology and makes you question your existence.

This was one of the first posts I saw when I logged in and it caught my eye. I think it's a very fitting "page" for the rest of the book, and reflects how you understood the book, having more dark undertones to it. I understood the book in a similar way, noticing the more aggressive and threatening tone it had, and think this post fits the theme of the book nicely. I also liked the usage of how we commonly talk on the internet, with the usage of the world literally.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the fact that the book is very random and not in a specific order. I think another thing that would be good to notice is how the pictures do not directly relate to the words that are written on the page and you have to think a little harder in order to make the connection. I also like the thought that the book is like a horror movie because it does have a creepy idea to it. I would not have thought to put it that way.
ReplyDeleteI find your pastiche very interesting. I like the fact that image connects with real life emotions. However in the novel I thought the structure was focusing on past, present, then future.
