The Age of Earthquakes

The Age of Earthquakes

The book The Age of Earthquakes contained many interesting aspects that were outstanding. I particularly found interesting the many different definitions of keywords that were scattered throughout the book. Examples are words such as “deselfing” and “detroitus”. I liked how these words all related to each other to create a bigger picture of how technology is sucking away our perception of our everyday decisions and lives. Not only that, it has gone to the extent of changing and morphing the entire structure of planet earth.

To be more specific, I liked how the author was able to combine two different words to create and further meaning. For example, the word “ stuart” was the combination of the words “stupid and smart”. The words “stupid” and “smart” individually are polar opposites are meaning. Two words that have no correlation were able to create a “combined” word that described many experiences that we as humans have but are unable to describe.

I appreciated the use of pictures and words within this book to create an overall “story” and “message” to the reader and world. The author was able to utilize art into a very creative and “new” way. I really appreciated that aspect of uniqueness. It was very simplistic and effective. In addition, it was very straightforward and understandable, it was not confusing.

Questions that were developed after I read this book was how was the idea of “How many people are consciously aware of the impact technology is having on our lives? Is it a large amount?” If so, “Why are we not doing anything to fix it? How do we fix it?”. Even so, “is there a solution?”. “Are we too deep into this technological addiction that we are unable to pull ourselves out?”
