The Age of Earthquakes is a cynical commentary that presents many shifts and themes that correlate to the central concept of our modern society. The book consists of an unique form, pertaining to the abundance of select texts and images, all presented in a old school fashion with black and white, which is an ideal source of juxtaposition as it is contrary to the colorful generation of our technology. It was difficult in the earlier sections of reading, as I could not comprehend how this book correlated to an ordinary novel, but that is where the specialty of this book reigns. I appreciate the direct statements and ideas presented on every page, and how each page connects to each other to correlate to an overall idea. While majority of the novels try to achieve such flow, this novel uses aspects from different genres such as Science Fiction and History, and also holds a unique style to accomplish the interconnectedness. Many other texts focus on both the positive and negative aspects of our generation with technology, but this novel does not only describe the aspects, but demonstrates the underdevelopment we reached with non technological parts of our society, such as books, lectures, notes and even social resources, showing how reliant we have become on technology for everything, the possible message being a sudden realization of the isolation due to our own technology. What bothered me minorly was the fact that so many facts and so much information was said to me in a rapid motion, It felt overwhelming to comprehend all of it, which adds on to majority of the public on how to handle and cooperate with the uses of our technology.
