Overall, Age of Earthquakes was an interesting book. The design layout and as well as the presentation of the content made the book easy to read but also difficult to understand a non-surface level understanding of the book. The most noticeable aspect of the book was its layout. The graphics designed pages added to the flow of the novel as well as a stop or shift in the narrative. For instance, at the beginning of the novel brings in the reader into the book and doesn't offer a natural stopping point to be picked up at a later time. The most notable page to me was page 103. The mixture of the emoji art and then the traditional piece of art allowed for the same meaning that the screaming man has. The emoji’s also added a sense of lightheartedness to the novel’s deeper message. It provided a good balance between the seriousness of our usage of the internet and the anonymity that we abuse. Something I disagreed with in the novel was from page 212-219. The novel makes assumptions that I don't like for instance “poor famous people are depressing.” The novel doesn’t go into the distinction of famous people. Now with famous people and the internet poor famous people are all over. For the book to be based on the internet I would assume that they would delve more into the way famous people use the internet and how we consume it. Also, the way the book focused on how technology shapes us was very interesting because it describes how different we are from the past and how we can never go back. In conclusion, I liked the book, however, there were a few moments where my tastes were soured but I did enjoy its message and how it was conveyed.
