Age of Earthquakes

Age of Earthquakes Response

Aditya Kelshiker

Throughout the text Age of Earthquakes the author offers their viewpoint on technology and its effect on humanity as a whole. The author attempts to relate the concept of the internet to an individual's personality, I do respect the perspective given however I do fundamentally disagree with many of the arguments the author suggests. The author suggests that the entirety of the personality of an individual can be deciphered via their internet activities and while I do agree with this to an extent I also believe that it can only know so much. The author makes the argument that we are losing individuality as a society and I do find it fascinating that they believe this to be so and in many aspects it may be (clothing, common phrases, etc) however the author makes no mention of how it allows people to actually express their individuality. The author makes it seem like every child experiences the same thing, however due to the environment and interactions one goes through this is invalid. The author also talks about the concept of societal construct and how the internet is making people marginally richer and destroying the concept of “class”.  I believe that this view is fundamentally incorrect as one intrinsic concept will always exist: time. With the widespread availability of internet the availability of information is nearly infinite, this combined with the fact that everyone has 24 hours in a day means that there is opportunity everywhere and it is up to those who are determined to sift through it all to earn more money than the rest. I will always believe that I am the protagonist of my own story and that everyone should as well (a idea the author says is lost with technology).

  1. I love your pastiche because it does a really good job of mimicking the text because it somewhat attacks the reader like the book does. i also like how you utilized the drop down menu of google because it shows that the internet has influence over everything we do because it is prepared to answer every question and give all kinds of advice, almost like it is a person.

  2. I completely agree with you in terms of the overall message of the book. The book is a mere statement on how technology is really affecting our lives negatively, whereas in reality, it is really helping more. Also, I think your pastiche really encompasses the entirety of the text as it is depicting the message that technology is an influential force changing the way we view and react to our changing society.
